#WorldVsBank day of action

More than 235 organisations, including NGOs, unions, and farmer and consumer groups from over 100 countries, signatories to the Joint Statement of the Our Land Our Business campaign, are demanding that the World Bank immediately end its Doing Business rankings and the new Benchmarking the Business of Agriculture project.

On October 10th, as the Bank leaders converge in Washington D.C. for the World Bank’s annual meeting, creative mobilisations will be held simultaneously in 10 cities around the world, sending the World Bank a clear message to abandon its disastrous indicators that are facilitating a rampant theft of land and resources from some of the world’s poorest people –farmers, pastoralists, and indigenous communities– many of whom are essential food producers for the entire planet.

If you are in Nairobi, Lagos, Mexico city, Delhi, Kinshasa, Johannesburg, Dhaka, Brussels, London join #WorldvsBank mobilisations and in many countries call the local /Crowdring number to lift your voice against the World Bank.

On October 10th the Our Land Our Business day of action will include:

• 9 am: A panel discussion, “Orienting Agricultural Development with Indicators?” at the World Bank Civil Society Policy Forum (World Bank I Building, 1850 I St. N.W.). Featured panelists include:
• Ruth Nyambura from the African Biodiversity Network, Kenya
• Okok Ojulu from Anywaa Survival Organisation, Ethiopia
• Ibrahim Sidibe from National Rural Youth Federation & National Coordination of Peasant Organisations, Mali
• 4 pm: A #WorldvsBank street mobilisation at Rawlings Park, featuring speakers and artists. Make your own posters and materials at home and join us!

On October 11th also come protest against the World Bank’s dismantling of protections for people and the planet at 11am in front of the World Bank (Edward Murrow Park). Despite World Bank President Kim’s public promise that the Safeguards would not be diluted, the new draft “Environmental and Social Framework” released by the Bank dismantles the protections and public accountability that people’s movements fought for over decades and falls far short of the rules needed to protect the environment and respect the rights of affected communities, workers and indigenous peoples.
