Without those changes, India\u2019s \u201cjump\u201d in the rankings looks much more modest.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the assembled billionaires at Davos last month, India\u2019s Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced triumphantly that \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/world\/india-is-an-investment-in-the-future-full-text-of-narendra-modis-speech-at-plenary-session-of-wef-in-davos-4316305.html\">the largest democracy on earth is also the fastest growing major economy<\/a>.\u201d Modi used the platform to advertise that \u201cIndia is open for business\u201d and tout his accomplishments as an economic reformer\u2014and that claim seems to have the backing of international financial institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Last October, the World Bank announced that \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/news\/press-release\/2017\/10\/31\/india-jumps-doing-business-rankings-with-sustained-reform-focus\">India Jumps Doing Business Rankings with Sustained Reform Focus<\/a>\u201d moving from 130th to 100th overall. (Note the focus on the jump, or change.)
