Earlier this month, the World Bank had a meeting and forgot to invite the World. So they showed up anyway, with signs and chants and a mission – to expose the harm done by the institution’s Doing Business Rankings, which rate the globe’s economies by how easy it is to loot money from them. The Oakland Institute’s Anuradha Mittal talks with Chuck about the WorldVsBank actions that took place across the globe, and her group’s Our Land Our Business campaign to help the world’s farmers reclaim land and policy from Western elites. Anuradha also explains how the World Bank’s ideological blindness places corporate profit above actual results in the countries they influence, why the Gates Foundation pursues a vision of corporatized farming incompatible with our warming planet, and suggests a simple solution – actually listen to the farmers about what works best for them.
